Survey Results

The first of the local residents thoughts and opinions surveys, run by Frack Free Frodsham and Helsby (FFFH), has been released today. The results were presented to Frodsham town council at a meeting of the council at 7pm today, The results relate only to the area governed by Frodsham town council, the results for Helsby will be released in due course. The results show strong opposition (raw results 77.7% against; demographically reweighed 77.8% against) to unconventional gas extraction in the Frodsham area.

The survey itself was carried out by volunteers with expert guidance, all of whom kindly gave up their free time to participate. Key findings of the raw survey:

  • 61.1% of sampled households responded to the survey.

  • 9.1% of valid respondents believed fracking would be a good thing for the area.

  • 77.7% of valid respondents believed fracking would be a bad thing for the area.

  • 13.2% of valid respondents don’t know or had no opinion on whether fracking would be

good or bad for the area.

  • Females tend to be slightly more opposed to fracking (80.9% of valid respondents)

compared with 74.7% for males.

  • The age distribution showed considerable variation with those in younger age groups more

opposed than older groups, while higher proportions of 75+ age group indicated don’t know/no opinion.
